How to make Windows 10 quicker in 9 easy steps

No doubt, when it comes to desktops, Windows is a common OS. But the common operating system has its own fair share of issues. Windows has never been as stable as macOS because of the variety of equipment and the quantity of built-in bloat. To add to that, you can’t disable unnecessary background services. All this contributes to a scheme that is underperforming and that’s why you see so many papers around the windows !

We’re going to speak on Windows about some strong modifications in software and hardware upgrades. So, here are hacks for Windows 10 to accelerate.

How To Make Windows 10 Faster

  1. Turn off Cortana

Now, when companies start pushing services on you, I don’t really like. Cortana is no problem, but when you don’t have the option to disable it, it’s not fair. You’ve got steady services operating in the background with Cortana on. Not only that, it affects the results of the search. I wanted to look for an implementation called “iSpring Free Cam,” for instance. The search findings are shown below with Cortana and handicapped after Cortana.

Now, after the latest update, Windows will not let you disable Cortana. But by editing the registry entries, you can still do it. But I suggest that you take a backup first before you do that. You can always roll back to the prior backup point if you end up with a problem. Now go to the run menu and type “regedit.exe” to edit the registration entries.

Alternatively, in the Start Menu, you can also type Registry Editor and press it to open the  Registry Key menu.

In the Registry Editor Menu, navigate to the following path


Under Windows, we need to build a folder. Right-click on Windows to do that and pick New and Click Key. Name the key as “Search for Windows.”

Now generate a D-Word entry in the Windows Search folder. Name it as “Allow Cortana” and set it to 0. Click OK and restart Windows once it’s finished.

If you’re too lazy to do all of these, you’ll find a connection to a zip folder that has 2 registration entries: Allow Cortana and Disable Cortana. Just double click Disable Cortana and you’re supposed to do the work. Reboot your PC once and post that you should be disabled with Cortana. Cortana’s search bar will now be invisible and internet results and recommendations will also be disabled during the search.


  1. Disable native Indexing

Let’s switch to Windows Search after you turned off Cortana. There’s not the best out there. You also have the Search services operating in the background on an ongoing basis. It’s looking for emails, file indexes, and other content. This in the background consumes a lot of funds and further slows down your startup time.

So, if the native search for Windows isn’t quicker then why not switch it off and save some energy. To do this, entries from the indexing list need to be removed. Go for the last moment to the Windows Search and search for Indexing alternatives.

In the Indexing Options menu, we need to remove all the entries. For that, click on the “Modify” button.

Now uncheck all the selected locations in the Modify Indexed Locations menu. If you want to open applications because of its habit of jumping to Start Menu, you can leave Program Files. This will remove the indexing of the folders. If you are unable to locate the folders, press on the folders below in the section “Summary of chosen places” and it will redirect you to the location in the section “Change chosen places.” Once everything has been unchecked, click OK to save the modifications.

The chosen folder will reflect on the Indexing Options menu once you have saved the modifications. Close the window and no documents will be indexed by Windows Search now. But in the background it is still running, you can completely prevent it from Services.msc by disabling the “Windows Search” service.

Right click on the Windows Search service and click on Properties. In the Properties window, select Startup Time as “Disabled”.

Now that you have disabled native Indexing on Windows, it’s time to switch to a better Window’s search app called Everything.

Everything is a popular Window’s utility that replaces the native Windows search. Compare to Windows search, Everything is way faster and lets you perform all the functions that you can go through the Windows Search.

  1. Analyze Startup Impact

It takes a lot of time for most Windows system to boot up. Startup programs are the factor that has a direct effect. I wouldn’t suggest that you disable all Startup Programs unlike most individuals. That’s just naïve! I suggest checking the effect of startups and disabling higher-impact applications. Open the Task Manager to do that. You can right-click the Taskbar and right-click “Task Manager.” Alternatively, to activate Task Manager, you can also click Ctrl + Shift + Esc.

Navigate to the Start tab in the Task Manager. You will see the Startup programs and the “Startup Impact” corresponding to them in the Startup tab. If you see the effect of some program as unmeasured, reboot the system once and measure it. Now, if the start-up impact is high, then during start-up the program consumes more time and money. We need to disable these programs and click and select the program to do that, and press the bottom-right Disable button.

Post this, you should see a significant improvement in the response time after the Windows startup.

  1. Best Performance Mode

These are some dramatic steps now. I would suggest changing to Best Performance Mode if you are a system that behaves too sluggish and jittery with the graphics. This will, however, reduce several alternatives for animations and graphics. Go to Start Menu and type “Adjust appearance” to switch to Best Performance Mode. You’ll see a pop-up configuration called “Adjust Windows appearance and performance,” press on it.

Now select “Adjust for Best Performance” in the Performance Options window. By default, the “Adjust for best appearance” option is chosen. After selecting Adjust for Best Performance choice, you will see the possibilities for animations and graphics that are disabled in the chapter below. If you want certain particular graphics such as “show thumbnails instead of icons,” you can inspect them and allow the graphic. To record the modifications, click the Ok button.

You will see a few graphics modifications once you have activated Best Performance Mode. Instead of Thumbnails, the noticeable ones would be icons and no shadow under window and mouse pointer etc. The distinction in graphics in this mode is enormous, but it speeds up the indigenous File Explorer and decreases the stress on the rendering of graphics.

  1. Battery Settings

By default, Windows runs the system to save battery in mediocre environments. Turning it to the lowest environment can lead to quicker drainage of your battery. But it does enhance your system’s efficiency. Click on the battery icon at the bottom right of the taskbar toggle battery modes here. It will create a Battery Optimization menu where Better Performance is set to the default mode. To set it to Best Performance mode, drag the slider to the extreme right.

  1. Turn off Windows Defender

In Windows 10, Windows Defender is baked. In the background, it runs several facilities to guarantee that the system is protected from malware and viruses. Windows Defender also recently introduced the sandboxing function that guarantees that other files are not corrupted by a virus-infected app. Windows Defender is a nice indigenous service to use, but you can switch it off if it causes a toll on your system or you get upset with the frequent notification.

There’s no immediate way to do it, however, like Cortana, and you have to edit registry keys. But I suggest that you take a backup first before you do that. You can always roll back to the prior backup point if you end up with a problem. Now, go to the run menu and type “regedit.exe” to edit the registration entries.

Alternatively, you can also type Registry Editor in the Start Menu and click on it to open the Registry key menu.

In the Registry Editor Menu, navigate to the following path

“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender”

You’ll discover a file called Default already. Now we need to generate a fresh D-Word file to disable Windows Defender. To do this, right press on the correct side of the vacant room and pick New. Click “D-WORD (32-bit) value” under New.

Name the key as “DisableAntiSpyware”. Change the value to 1 by double-clicking on the key. Once done, click on the Ok button.

Restart your PC for the changes to take effect. After the restart, Windows Defender services should not be running.

Note: This might make your PC vulnerable to viruses and malware on the Internet or via removable devices

  1. Turn off One Drive Sync

In Windows 10, Microsoft added One Drive Sync to back up your information automatically. But, it is constantly trying to synchronize files from windows to cloud, which requires a reasonable amount of resources. I use Google Drive in my case, so I don’t need synchronization with One Drive. I switched it off, therefore. Click the One Drive icon at the bottom right of the taskbar to do that.

Click the More button at the bottom right of the One Drive menu. Click Settings from the expanded menu.


In the Microsoft One Drive settings menu, go to the Account Tab. In the One Drive Storage section, you will see a hyperlink titled “Unlink this PC”. Click on it and it will pause all the syncs from your system forever.

Now, the sync is stopped but One Drive will still run every time you restart your system. To disable that, go to the Settings tab and uncheck the first option under the General section. After that, click on the Ok button to register the changes.


  1. UnderVolting

You may understand about OverClocking already. But not every BIOS supports overclocking, and there are several implications that you need to consider. So, here’s another Undervolting notion. We need to know what it really is before we start with Undervolting. Often, the CPU and GPU are supplied with a slightly extra voltage they don’t need. Now, this additional voltage leads to thermal energy generation that creates heat throttling. In easy words, it attempts to return to ordinary temperature by shedding load when your CPU is heated up to the maximum temperature.

So, you should attempt undervolting if your PC gets heated up a lot while doing ordinary things. You can use the Intel XTU app for Intel processors to undervolt. You can use a third-party app called Throttlestop when using an AMD processor. I’m on the i5-7200U of Intel, so I’m using the XTU app.

Open the XTU app and go to the Core portion to undervolt your CPU.

What you can do now is to reduce the voltage provided to your CPU. We need to go to the adverse side to reduce the voltage. Please be cautious while doing this and make sure that you are not going to the beneficial side as this would lead to overvoltage. Overvolting allows your PC to be provided with more voltage and thus frequently heated. In my case, the processor is Intel i5-7200U, so I undervolted it to -0.1 V. You can google the Undervolt limit of your CPUs or just attempt to lower it stop-by-stop and see where your PC is freezing. The cute place should be the preceding voltage point. If your system is freezing at any stage, just restart your PC and the undervolt limit would be reset.

Within the app, you can stress experiment and see the distinction before and after. After Undervolting, I received almost a 10-degree temperature difference. Not only does this stop heat throttling, but it also improves your processor’s life.

But don’t overdo this and I wouldn’t recommend doing this for your GPU. Undervolting is less complicated than overclocking but does give long term benefits.

  1. Hardware

That’s the highest efficiency boost you can accomplish on SW. There’s no solution to excellent hardware at the end of the day. You can start by expanding the memory of your RAM. People don’t understand how important a RAM can make a difference. It allows you to make maximum use of your CPU.

I came to Amazon now and received a vital 8 GB RAM with a clock rate of 2400 MHz. I wouldn’t suggest a clock speed greater RAM. Due to most of the max out of the CPU at 2133 Mhz. Buy one with 3000 Mhz if your CPU supports a greater frequency RAM.

After the RAM switch, you can see the benchmark scores with 8 GB of RAM and 12 GB of RAM. It does make a significant amount of difference.

If you have an additional SSD slot in your PC, go ahead and purchase an SSD. SSD considerably enhances your PC’s general efficiency. They have become cheaper now, and they remember that inner SSDs are cheaper than external SSDs. Depending on your PC slots, you can get an internal SSD of 2.5 7 mm or M.2. You can google your specs online on your laptop readily. Using MiniTool Partition Wizard, move your program files and OS to the SSD after you have the SSD. The instrument allows you to clone your C computer to the SSD so that the SSD side can boot.
