OPPO has loved its front cam even before Selfies became a thing. It should come as no surprise that the brand’s newest device rides heavily on its Selfie Creds. The F7 becomes the first ever smartphone with a 25MP front cam. It also incorporates one of 2018’s overused buzzwords – AI. Back in 2017, OPPO launched the F5 with AI beauty technology; the F7 takes it to the next level. The cam scans 296 facial recognition points for the perfect selfie. It doesn’t stop there; the device’s AI engine identifies your beautification preferences based on edits you make to images in your photo album. It then learns from those edits and ‘auto edits’ new pictures you click with the device.
The F7 doesn’t end with its front cam, the device stretches the display, pushing the screen: body ratio close to the 90% mark. OPPO calls it’s the Super Full screen; the 6.2-inch FHD+ display features a 19:9 Aspect Ratio and packs 1080 x 2280 pixels. The display is vibrant and works for media consumption on the go. The notch (the tiny piece of bezel that hangs down from the top of the display) – it’s clearly a case of love or loath. We saw it first on the iPhone X and quite a few devices in 2018 have taken the cue. The F7 joins this growing list too, the notch incorporates the front cam and light sensor.
The top-of-the-line version device is propelled by an octa-core processor coupled with 6GB of RAM (there’s also a 4GB RAM version). There’s a special Edition Red but it’s the Diamond Black with its edgy triangular-cut patterns that grabbed our attention at the launch. It’s a fingerprint magnet though. There’s a 3400 mAh battery under the hood. The F7 is yet another OPPO smartphone that Selfie fiends should dig but this is more than a one-trick pony.
